The New Century was but a youth. And little Liliana had almost fifteen years on it. Her strange life in the new World was unfolding with wonder and quiet terror. And she stole one last look upon the astronomical miracle that was the Atlantic Liner. Through storms and vast horizons, it had ferried her away from all that was precious to her: family, home, Russia.
The winds of her chaos howled something desperate. And the swirling waters seemed to agree. But yea she could not decipher their meaning. "Go far awaaay!!" Is that what it whispered? Or was it "Stay with Meeee!".
Eventually, she would feel the pull of the Union Pacific and then of crossing this land further West. A strange inspiration she later attributed to being in a place of emptiness having lost a lover and no obligations having fled an arranged marriage.
Soon Liliana would have a family. Soon she would see rights and freedoms never dreamt of. And after a long and fruitful life she would at last die happy. But she would never know a companion quite like the man upon that ship. It was as though her heart knew this.
Now the winds were causing a mighty stir! "Staaaaay!" or was it"Awaaaaaay!" or was it... both. And as her wayward hair began clawing feverishly at her brow... she brushed it away with an oblivious hand... smoothing, soothingly behind her ear."Perhaps there are other fish.", she surmised, rather innocently.
