Though I generally perform readings of original work I have been circling the idea of experiencing the classics. I can think of no better first foray for my Ghost in the Gaslight art project than Poes dark little immortal of a poem, "The Raven". I have always been haunted by this piece as Im sure many you you have as well. It is also especially poignant for me to meet this rare bird as I can bring together my art, filmmaking, and performing backgrounds all into excavating the the dark places for this glorious and romantic dark tale.
The painting was made using mainly gouache and some ink as well as pencils. I had an amazing time performing, painting, filming and editing. I hope you enjoy! If you have a poem you think would be great for Ghost in the Gaslight- feel free to drop it in the comments section...
I freely admit to living for the unapologetic ‘flourish’, envisioning a Cyperworld in which Dickens, Thoreau, Woolf, Poe or Irving kept a blog about enjoying the little things; but with their passion intact rather than the usual chatty breezy style that carries the day in the blogosphere. I invite ye to experience my humble creations. It were Oscar Wilde who observed in The Picture Of Dorian Grey, “The search for beauty being the real secret of life.” To share with you a little bit of beauty, as I see it- that is all I crave.
